Saving with the Credit Union

Encouraging the getting into habit of saving is an important part of the Credit Union message. Regular saving and sensible borrowing are key elements to remember when it comes to managing your money. Saving regularly gives you financial security, independence, peace of mind and an attractive return on your savings.

Another great benefit of saving with the credit union is that your savings are protected by savings insurance. With life savings insurance your savings are doubled in the event of your death (Subject to certain terms and conditions). Any member between age 55 and 70 years will receive a reduced amount. The maximum amount of combined savings that a member can have at Coolock Artane Credit Union is €1,000,000.

A member can save a maximum of €1,000,000 in their Share or Special Shares Account only. Alternatively members can save a maximum of €900,000 in their Share or Special Share Account with a maximum of €100,000 in anyone of our deposit accounts; CUcash/Deposit, Fixed Term or 3/5 Term Accounts.

Members’ shares in the Credit Union form the pool from which loans can be granted. As shares act as a security against your loans, you are advised to continue to save while repaying a loan to ensure that you are well placed if you need to borrow a higher amount on the next occasion.
